A Harare man, who was dragged before the Mbare Magistrates' court facing an unlawful entry charge, claims to be a victim of a one-night stand gone bad.
Darlington Mugwagwa was last week in the dock facing charges of unlawful entry into Victoria Mukarati's Highfield house.
According to court records, Mugwagwa is alleged to have used a metal strip to open Mukarati's locked door.
However, in his defence Mugwagwa claimed the complainant made up the charges as a way of punishing him for refusing to pay more than what the pair had agreed upon for a one-night stand.
"I met Victoria in a bar at Machipisa Shopping Centre in Highfield and we had an agreement to have a one-night stand at a cost of US$20 but when we got to her house she started making fresh demands after a couple of intimate encounters.
She wanted more money from me but I would have none of it, hence I put on my clothes before walking out of her home," Mugwagwa told the court.
"As I was making my way out I banged the door and a cooking stick fell on the kitchen floor and she started shouting on top of her voice that a thief had entered her house.
Her screams alerted neighbours who apprehended me before handing me over to the police," he added.
On her part, Mukarati vehemently denied entering into an intimacy deal with Mugwagwa.
"When Mugwagwa broke into my kitchen I was fast asleep only to be awaken by the sound of a cooking stick that fell to the floor.
I never entered into an intimacy deal with him and I am not a prostitute as he is insinuating," she charged.
A state witness, Donald Chikosa, told the court that he woke up to Mukarati's screams of "thief!" and was not privy to what had happened before that.
Mugwagwa was remanded out of custody to tomorrow on a free bail.
