GENEVA, Switzerland - IOM is today (3/08/2012) handing over two rural health centres in Manicaland, southeast of Zimbabwe's capital Harare, to communities hosting large numbers of displaced farm workers.

As many as 160,000 farm workers lost their jobs and became displaced when Zimbabwe's government introduced a fast-track land reform programme in 2000.

The two health centres, located Zunidza and Name wards in Makoni district, will benefit 3,500 people, who previously identified them as a development priority. IOM is currently implementing a community reintegration programme for former farm workers in the district.

Construction of the centres was funded by the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civilian Protection Department (ECHO) and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA.)
