Political leaders across all the political parties have been called upon to stop inciting political violence and promote peace, by the MDC-T Manicaland provincial chairperson, Senator Keresesnsia Chabuka.

She said this today while addressing members of the Mutare Ministers' Fraternal in Mutare at a peace covenant prayer meeting at Eastern Highlands Church.

The purpose of the prayer meeting was to commit the nation before God and to encourage each other to go for elections peacefully and maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the city, province and in the nation at large.

The prayer meeting was attended by pastors, people from different political parties and all walks of life.

Senator Chabuka said the people of Zimbabwe wanted peace at all times and should shun violence.

"The MDC-T as a party is very sincere in its calls for peace. We want free and fair elections," she said.

She said politicians should not intimidate, victimise or violate the people so that they can be voted into office.

"People know us. They know our work and it's very easy for them to either vote for us or against us, during elections. There is no need for anyone to use violence to be voted into power," she said.

Meanwhile, the bail hearing for Headlands MDC-T district secretary, Samson Magumura who is facing false attempted charges of murder and malicious damage to property has been set down for tomorrow at the High Court in Harare.

Magumura appeared before a Rusape Magistrate on Monday; Shingi Mutiro who remanded him in custody to 5 April after the State had denied him bail prompting the magistrate to refer Magumura to seek for bail at the High Court.

The arrests of MDC-T and civic society members are a sure sign that the Zanu PF faction that lost in the recent referendum on the new Constitution is using State agents to arrest human rights defenders because it is feeling trapped that a new dispensation is coming when the people of Zimbabwe will vote them out in the next elections.

However, despite these desperate attempts by a panicking Zanu PF, the people of Zimbabwe remain resolute that they will not be cowed by a sunset party that will be resoundingly defeated by the MDC-T and its President, Morgan Tsvangirai.

An MDC-T win in the next elections will give the people of Zimbabwe, real change, new hope, jobs and better life for all.
