MDC-N PRESS STATEMENT
CONDOLENCE MESSAGE ON THE PASSING AWAY OF RETIRED GENERAL SOLOMON MUJURU
The MDC President, Professor Welshman Ncube and the entire leadership of the MDC extend their heartfelt condolences, firstly to Vice President Joyce Mujuru and secondly to President Robert Mugabe, President of ZANUPF and the leadership of ZANUPF on the untimely and tragic passing of Retired Army General, General Solomon Mujuru, husband of Vice President, Joyce Mujuru and member of the ZANUPF Politiburo, in the early hours of Tuesday, 16th August 2011. Professor Ncube and the leadership of the of the MDC received with shock and profound sadness the news of general Mujuru's death.
Retired Army General Solomon Mujuru will be remembered by all Zimbabweans as a true hero of the liberation struggle who selflessly played a pivotal role in the war for the liberation of Zimbabwe and his sterling work together with Lookout Masuku in integrating into the Zimbabwe national army the ZANLA, ZIPRA and Rhodesian forces and later his leadership of that integrated national army.
General Mujuru was a veteran of the struggle for the independence of Zimbabwe, a former commander of the ZANLA forces, a man who demonstrated courage and resilience in the protracted armed struggle that gave birth to our independence from colonial rule would, no doubt be sadly missed by his family and all peace loving Zimbabweans .
Under his command the Zimbabwe National Army played a pivotal role in bringing peace and stability in the region and Africa. Solomon Mujuru was an exemplary Army General of his time who was always measured and careful in his pronouncements. His death is a great loss not only to the Mujuru family and Zanu PF but to the nation at large. The nation is poorer without his contribution in national politics and economic development.
We pray that the comforting spirit of the Lord be with Vice President, Joyce Mujuru, the Mujuru children and the entire family, as well as with his colleagues in Zanu PF. We ask that the nation be united and be at one as we all bid farewell to General Mujuru. May his soul find comfort and rest in peace.
