ZIMBABWE PEOPLE FIRST.

PRESS STATEMENT

RE: State Media Attacks on Our Party and Leader Dr J.T.R. Mujuru

AS expected, the state media has launched a negative blitz on our party Zimbabwe People First, and our leader Dr J.T.R. Mujuru. However, we note with concern that all the material so far published by Herald, Sunday Mail, Chronicle and Sunday News on Zimbabwe People First and our leadership is pure fiction and fantasy.

The alleged divisions or so-called side-lining of founders of the party only exists in the wishful thinking of the state media.

ZPF is an all-inclusive party with members drawn from all generations. Mixing the young and old surely cannot be said to be side-lining anyone. We are simply harnessing our experiences and skills to strengthen the party. For the record, the younger generation in the party values the brave step taken by the founding elders of the party to say 'good bye' to Zanu-PF and lead the formation of Zimbabwe People First. Without their experience, leadership and guidance, the party would not have come this far. And we continue to need them.

Today's story in the Herald and Chronicle on Zanu-PF structures in Mashonaland Central attacking Dr Mujuru, and Saturday's instalment by Herald columnist Nathaniel Manheru, dramatises the regime's fear of Zimbabwe People First, even before we commence full-scale political activity. The thoughtless and negative publicity on our party from the state media is an undeniable admission by Zanu-PF of the effectiveness of Zimbabwe People First, and can only spur us forward.

As for Manheru, we are not worried at all about his monologues because the poor chap confuses his personal mood with the national mood, and his personal anxieties with national anxieties. We all know what is happening to his preferred successor to his boss, and naturally Manheru must be down, moody and anxious, and he thinks everyone is down, moody and anxious like him. The people's mood is that of expectation of change in 2018, and ZPF is determined and confident to bring that change. No columnist can dampen that mood.

In the meantime, ZPF continues to be seized with welcoming and integrating droves of new membership from all corners of Zimbabwe. We are humbled by the support from the people.

Thank you

By Methuseli Moyo, member of Information and Publicity Committee, Zimbabwe People First.
