RDZ Statement on the arrest of Promise Mkwananzi & others
10 Jul 2016 at 08:38hrs | Views
Promise Mkwananzi one of the leaders of Tajamuka/Sesijikile
RDZ is disturbed by the continued arbitrary arrests and illegal detention of Mr Promise Mkwananzi, a human rights activist and his colleagues .
The arrests and detention of citizens calling for some democratic reforms and other civilian liberties are a gross and glaring violation of the country's constitution which allows freedom to demonstrate .
It is sad to note that the country's law enforcement agents in the country are playing a ZANU pf card by arresting people demonstrating or intending to do so then deliberately falsify charges to reflect elements of criminality.
A sitting Head of State even by default as in Zimbabwe's case is expected not only to uphold the Republic's Constitution but to defend it as a fundamental responsibility.
When a President superintends the violation of the same he automatically disqualifies himself.
It is on these and other basis that RDZ call upon Mugabe to immediately retire in with dignity or be asked to do so by angry men and women of Zimbabwe and eventually stand trial for crimes against humanity and the overthrow of our Constitution.
