Rehabilitation of Ntalale piped water scheme revived

GWANDA - The long awaited rehabilitation of the Ntalale piped water scheme has been completed with the intervention of the donor community providing relief for villagers, the two local schools and a clinic.

The Ntalale piped water scheme which draws water from Tuli River using the sand abstraction technology stopped operating four years ago after the engines broke down, leaving the entire community thirsty and in dire need of the precious liquid.

When all hope was lost as the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) did not have funds to procure new engines, the donor community that included UK AID in partnership with Inter Consult and Sesani came to the rescue of the people by injecting resources for the project.

New pumps were installed powered by solar energy to reduce the cost of running the engines much to the benefit of villagers who are now enjoying use of clean portable water in their homes.

This new development is in line with the government vision of providing clean safe drinking water to all communities in the country.

This has also raised hope that other adjacent communities may also benefit from the project given that the sand abstraction water source is high yielding with the capacity to even irrigate some plots.
