Local Government minister Savior Kasukuwere has today announced that the government is distributing drought relief food in Nyamandlovu area.

Kasukuwere posted an aerial picture of a truck with drought relief handouts.

Zimbabwe has in the last two seasons been importing maize from Zambia and South Africa to stave off famine.

Last year the government launched an ambitious $500 million command agriculture scheme  funded by private fuel companies that helped pool their resources together for the floundering agriculture sector.

Zimbabwe has struggled to provide sufficient food reserves for itself since 2000 after the implementation of the fast-track land reform programme that saw more than 4 000 white commercial farmers violently pushed off the land.
