Three Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) traffic cops at Nyamandlovu station in Matebeleland North were arrested for defrauding a motorist of his US$5 at a road block on 16 March.
Sources close to investigations allege constable Chimombe, constable Chitakura and constable Muzofa were on traffic law enforcement deployment at 38km peg along Bulawayo-Tsholotsho road on 10 march.
"The trio arrested Edmore Mashini for mixing goods and passengers under the road motor transportation act chapter 13:10 and ordered him to pay $10 fine.
The accused plucked off a receipt without endorsing the amount section which they later endorsed $10 both in words and figures before handling it to Mushini."
After the departure of Mushini the trio acting in concert later endorsed $5 on the remaining copies, an amount different to that paid by Mushini.
"The cops pocketed the other $5 and after their duty they handed $50 to the force.
"The matter came to light when Mushini noted that a pen was used to endorse on amount section of his copy and he alerted the police in Bulawayo who then arrested the trio," said the source.
Meanwhile, the accused are expected to appear before a Zimbabwe Republic Police disciplinary trial for contravening criminal law codification and reform act chapter 9:23 fraud.
