Harare magistrate frees vendor

At Harare Magistrates Court, Magistrate Muzondo has set free Archford Chinyamunjiko, an informal sector trader who was arrested on 01 February 2017 and charged with assault in contravention of Section 89 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act) Chapter 9:23.
Chinyamunjiko, who was represented by Sharon Hofisi of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights was arrested by Harare City Council municipal police officers and Zimbabwe Republic Police officers in central Harare together with three other informal sector traders and accused of unlawfully and intentionally assaulting Tendai Nyamuronda, a municipal police officers who was on duty arresting vendors.
Magistrate Muzondo removed Chinyamunjiko from remand after the State witness defaulted in attending court sessions for the umpteenth time for the trial of the 23 year-old informal sector trader.
