Update on access to mobile network in Umzingwane Ward 9

Econet Zimbabwe Wireless, one of the leading telecommunications company in the country recently responded to the concerns of Umzingwane Ward 9 villagers over failure to access mobile networks in the area.

The company official promised that the villagers' concerns will be addressed.

Speaking at the meeting, Econet representative said they saw the position paper that was submitted by the Habakkuk Trust Community Advocacy Action Team in Umzingwane Ward 9 and they responded by visiting the community and giving them feedback.

"We saw the paper highlighting your issue, and Vincent Sibanda (Habakkuk Trust Action Team member) has been coming to our offices to make a follow up," he said. "We have come here ourselves to tell you that we have heard your outcry and we will put your request in our next year's budget. Unfortunately we had already done this year's budget."

Econet thanked the community for requesting a network booster in the area and promised to ensure that their issue is included in next year's budget.

In April this year, the Action Team engaged the three leading mobile network operators over inaccessibility of mobile networks in the bulk of the Ward. These mobile promised to address the issue at the earliest possible time. The Action Team has been following up on the issue.
