A FAILURE to pay a self-styled prophet almost proved too costly for a Tsholotsho man, Zwelani Mlalazi after the prophet threatened to burn down his hut.
The prophet Mekeleni Moyo aged 20 was invited by Mlalazi to cleanse his homestead of troublesome evil spirits.
After successfully getting rid of the evil spirits, Moyo was to be paid in cash or offered a transport to South Africa.
Moyo executed his task. However, sometime in February when he intended to collect his cash Mlalazi's wife Tholakele Ndebele said her husband was not in the homestead.
This angered Moyo who demanded R300 from Ndebele in the process threatening to burn down the house.
Fearing that Moyo would fulfill his threats, Ndebele gave Moyo R100 and a blanket.
Ndebele later proceeded to make a police report leading to Moyo's arrest. Moyo was sentenced to four months in jail and nothing was suspended by Fritz Madiba.
He was charged with extortion.
