HEADMAN Likaba Ndiba Muleya Siyoga of Beitbridge West died at his rural village on Sunday, some 90km west of the border town, following a short illness.
He was 69.
The headman, who passed away in the afternoon, will be buried today at his rural home.
Beitbridge district administrator Mr Simon Muleya described the headman's death as "a great loss".
"We have lost a great pillar of strength that will be difficult to replace.
"He was like a father figure to many of us and we will continue to cherish his good works.
"He was a vocal leader who helped the traditional leaders to be highly recognised by both the communities and Government.
"We will forever miss him and he has left a great vacuum in Beitbridge District.
"Many people had been relying on him for guidance and advice following the death of Chief Pariti Stauze in September 2006 and Chief Matibe in May last year."
Headman Siyoga took over from his cousin Mr Robert Siyoga on September 4, 1997 after the latter had held that office in an acting capacity since the death of his father ' Headman Tomani Siyoga ' on March 31, 1983.
He is survived by his wife and several children and grandchildren.
