A 36-year-old man from Gweru's Mkoba Village 9 suburb is battling for life at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo after he was allegedly struck with a brick on the head by his wife after she allegedly caught him being intimate with his lover.

The wife, Roseline Nyamagondo (32), has since been arrested while her husband, Mr Nomore Rukanda, is said to be in a coma at Mpilo Central Hospital where he is admitted.

Nyamagondo was yesterday brought before Gweru magistrate Mr Meo Rubwe facing charges of domestic violence.

She was remanded to 5 April on $20 bail.

For the State, Mr Michael Mhene told the court that on Wednesday last week, Mr Rukanda went to a relative's house in Mkoba Village 9 where he intended to spend the night with his girlfriend, one Ms Tanasiya Dowani.

Mr Mhene said Nyamagondo then got wind that her husband, Mr Rukanda, was at one of his relatives' house with his girlfriend, Ms Dowani, after which she visited the house.

The court heard that when Nyamagondo arrived at the house, she broke into one of the rooms and found Mr Rukanda pants down with his alleged lover.

Mr Mhene said Nyamagondo, who was armed with a standard brick, then struck her husband with it while he was still in the act.

He said this resulted in him losing consciousness.

The court heard that Mr Rukanda was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital before he was  transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital where he is still admitted.

Mr Mhene said Mr Rukanda's condition was said to be critical.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Nyamagondo.
