Police brutality continues in Matabeleland North

Just a week after the transfer of Zanu-PF apologist and controversial Matabeleland North police commander senior assistant commissioner Edmore Veterai, members of a Bulawayo based NGO have been arrested for holding a workshop in Lupane.
National Youth Development Trust's senior programme coordinator Bhekumusa Moyo was arrested on Thursday morning at the Kusile District Council guest house for holding capacity building workshop that police say was not cleared.
This is despite NYDT in possession of a court order granting them permission to hold the workshop after the police initially declined to sanction it.
NYDT director Liberty Bhebhe said Moyo was arrested and detained at Lupane Police Station.
Bhebhe said their legal representative Lison Ncube from the Zimbabwe lawyers for Human Rights was dragged out of the station when he sought access to Moyo.
"The officer in charge at the station led him to the gate and told him he was not allowed at the station. He further threatened Ncube with arrest if he defied his orders," said Bhebhe.
"The police then locked the gate to the station. It is highly likely that Moyo will spend the weekend at the police station as they want to frustrate us from holding legitimate meetings.
Veterai who was replaced by Norman Sibanda has been accused by NGOs and political parties for frustrating their meetings because of his bias to Zanu-PF.
