BINGA â€" A 30-year-old woman from Lusulu area had a chunk of her lower lip bitten off by a neighbour, who accused her of stealing sweet cane from her fields.
The piece is still missing.
Thembinkosi Ndlovu (23) appeared before Binga resident magistrate, Stephen Ndlovu, last week facing charges of assaulting Sithethele Tshuma.
She pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 12 months in jail.
Six months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining six months were suspended on condition she performs 210 hours of community service at Ziakamana Primary School.
The court heard that on February 25 this year, Tshuma who is Ndlovu's cousin, went to the grazing land to look for family cattle and passed by Ndlovu's home.
Ndlovu started insulting her accusing her of having stolen cane from her fields. It was the state case that Ndlovu pounced on Tshuma, grabbed her by neck before biting off her mouth's lower lip.
Tshuma was taken to hospital for treatment where a medical doctor compiled a report which indicated that she suffered permanent deformity as a result of the attack.
A report made to the police led to Ndlovu's arrest.
David Never Shiku prosecuted.
