Masvingo bus accident, death toll rises to at least 21 victims

The number of accident victims from the Mega Link bus which overturned at the 92kn peg new Ngundu along the Masvingo - Beitbridge road has been revised to at least 21.
Earlier during the day, state radio had reported that the number was at least 10 who died on the spot.
The bus had been travelling towards Beitbridge when the accident happened around 2am.
The radio quoted witnesses as saying that the driver, who died at the scene of the crash, had been speeding and failed to negotiate a curve.
At least 10 people died on the spot and several others were injured. Four hours after the accident, the fire brigade team was still trying to rescue about 15 trapped victims.
Victims were being ferried to Ngundu Clinic and Masvingo General Hospital.
Officer commanding Masvingo West district, Chief Superintendent Joseph Mandizha said they are investigating the cause of the accident.
