A prison officer stationed at Whawha Prison on the outskirts of Gweru got the shock of his life when he caught a colleague pants down with his wife in his bedroom within the prison quarters.
The prison officer, Hamshire Nkomo, was reportedly on duty guarding prison cells together with a colleague, John Mashavire, when he later allegedly caught Mashavire pants down with his wife.
The sources said the drama filled incident occurred on Thursday night.
The sources said there was mayhem within the Whawha Prison quarters after Nkomo threatened to shoot the two lovebirds after catching them sweating it out in his bedroom.
"The two, Nkomo and Mashavire, were on duty guarding prison cells on the fateful night when Mashavire left his service gun with Mr Nkomo. He lied to Nkomo that he wanted to check if his stove was off," said the source.
The sources said Mashavire, however, went straight to Nkomo's quarters where he allegedly then got into Nkomo's matrimonial bedroom.
On realising that Mashavire was taking time to report back to duty, Nkomo then proceeded to check Mashavire at his quarters, the sources said.
"When he failed to locate Mashavire at his quarters, Nkomo, who was now carrying two service guns then proceeded to his house only to get the shock of his life when he found Mashavire having a nice time with his wife," said the source.
The sources said Nkomo's wife then refused to open the door for the husband who was watching them while being intimate through an opening on their bedroom door.
"When Nkomo finally broke into the bedroom, he could not immediately locate Mashavire who was hiding inside an in-built wardrobe in the bedroom. Nkomo then demanded that his wife show him where Mashavire was hiding at gun point," said the source.
He said the two lovebirds then shouted for help after Nkomo threatened to shoot them, resulting in other residents within the quarters thronging Nkomo's house.
"The residents then assisted Nkomo to take the two lovebirds to the duty officer. Mashavire is now facing disciplinary measures following the incident.
Mr Nkomo is still together with his wife after the two were counselled by the prison chaplain," said the source.
Nkomo confirmed the incident yesterday, but refused to give details.
"That is what happened, but I think it's not necessary for you to write about it. It's my private life," he said.
When pressed to give details of what transpired Nkomo promised to visit this reporter at the Chronicle offices in Gweru, but did not show up.
Mashavire refused to comment on the matter.
Zimbabwe Prison Services provincial spokesperson for Midlands and Masvingo region, Chief Prison Officer Jere Ruzive declined to comment on the issue.
"That is an internal incident so I cannot comment on it.
Besides, at the moment it's a rumour and we cannot comment on rumours before our investigations have been completed," he said.
