15 MDC members arrested while campaigning in Tsholotsho today

FIFTEEN of Welshman Ncube's Movement for Democratic Change members were today (Monday 23 April) arrested Monday afternoon for campaigning in Tsholotsho.
The 15 members of the MDC who are on a membership recruitment exercise in Tsholotsho Matabeleland North were picked up by the Zimbabwe Republic Police for violeting POSA.
They are currently being held incommunicado at Tsholotsho Police Station. These members include: Robert Mgezelwa Ndlovu - Mat. Not Provincial Secretary, Mrs Rhoda Ncube Councillor for Tsholotsho RDC and member of the party's National Council, Petros Mahonondo Tsholotsho RDC Council Chairman, Abel Dube Councillor for Tsholotsho RDC and party's Mat. North Spokesperson, Minutewell Ncube Ncube, Simon Moyo, Bongani Sibanda (Party driver) and other provincial and district members.
The MDC said it is disturbed at the continued harassment of its members by the police.
"The MDC wishes to make it clear that all these efforts by our detractors will not derail our quest for a just and a fair Zimbabwe. The party demands their immediate release," said MDC in a press statement.
"The MDC is committed more than ever to free the people of Zimbabwe for the dungeons of oppression. It is unfortunate that this illegal detention is taking place in the months of April when we are celebration our independence."
"It these diabolic actions that strengthen our resolve to fight for a just and a fair Zimbabwe. We wish to let our detractors that true liberators in their quest for freedom never gave-up when such challenges arose, they make arrest us physically but our souls are more determined. The just and fair Zimbabwe is certain," concluded the statement.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Siphiwe Makonese, at 4:30 pm said she was still waiting for details from Tsholotsho police base.
Police have routinely been arresting members from both MDC formations later to release them with no charges proffered.
