ZIMBABWE POLICE in Beitbridge and their South African counterparts in Musina have launched a manhunt for two men linked to a series of crimes involving armed robbery, rape and murder.
The officer commanding police in Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Lawrence Chinhengo, said the two men were suspected to have fled into South Africa through undesignated entry points along the Limpopo River.
"We have launched a manhunt for two suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising the communities of Beitbridge and Musina. We would like to believe the suspects could have crossed the border and we have since alerted our South African counterparts and they are assisting us to track them," he said.
Chief Supt Chinhengo said the two men were also targeting border jumpers using undesignated entry points to cross into South Africa or Zimbabwe.
"The suspects operate in bushy areas along the Limpopo River and each time they pounced in Zimbabwe they would flee into South Africa where they would also commit similar offences. They also targeted borderjumpers and smugglers using illegal crossing points," he said.
One of the suspects, Hardlife Nheya (23) was arrested last week.
He has since been sentenced to two years in jail for robbery.
Nheya was arrested after robbing a Beitbridge man of R50 and a cellphone before stripping him naked at knifepoint.
Nheya connived with the two accomplices who are still at large. Nheya is yet to appear in court again to face several counts of rape.
Chief Supt Chinhengo said Nheya was also on a police wanted list in South Africa for murder.
