House burns to ashes due to Zesa load shedding

A house in Jahunda Township, Gwanda caught fire and the residents are blaming load shedding by ZESA.

A woman was apparently ironing clothes when the electricity went off from 0800 hrs to 2100 hrs.

"It is believed that she was ironing in her bedroom then amagetsi ahamba. She forgot to switch off the iron when Zesa came the cloth caught fire and indlu yabhebha yonke," an eye witness said.

The woman then reportedly forgot to switch off the iron and her clothes caught fire when the electricity was switched back on but fortunately her neighbours managed to rescue some of her belongings.

Firefighters were called to the scene but it apparently took them an hour to get there. The Gwanda municipality is also reportedly without an ambulance to ferry patients to the hospital and they had to use a fire ambulance.
