Police launch manhunt for armed robbers

POLICE in Matabeleland North have launched a manhunt for two armed robbers who broke into a National Foods warehouse in Victoria Falls on Friday.
The two men, who were wearing balaclavas and armed with an iron bar allegedly pounced on an unsuspecting security guard and took his service revolver before tying his hands and feet with a piece of wire.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed the incident yesterday and said investigations were underway.
She said the robbers got away with tinned food worth $90.
"The two men were wearing masks and approached the National Foods warehouse at around 2 am on Friday. They then attacked the guard, Philip Manasi (27) and took away his revolver and a Samsung phone.
"The men also tied his hands and feet with wire before breaking into the warehouse," said Asst Insp Makonese.
She said they broke into the warehouse and stole packs of tinned foods and sweets.
"The men got away with tinned foods and sweets and disappeared into the night. The security guard managed to shout for help but was only helped by a man at around 6 am," said Asst Insp Makonese.
