A Gokwe teacher committed suicide by hanging himself after he allegedly caught his wife pants down with another man at a lodge in Gokwe North.
Acting Midlands Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on Sunday last week.
Police identified the teacher as Mr William Muzvidziwa (33) of Nembudziya area.
"The teacher, William Muzvidziwa (33), is suspected to have committed suicide after he allegedly caught his wife being intimate with another man. Police attended to the scene and a suicide note was recovered. A Gokwe magistrate waived post mortem," said Asst Insp Mahoko.
It is alleged that Mr Muzvidziwa, who was a teacher at Chireya Primary School in Gokwe North, hanged himself soon after catching his wife being intimate with another man at Chikomba lodge at Chitekete Business Centre. A source said the now deceased Mr Muzvidziwa travelled to Gokwe Town on Friday leaving his wife at home.
The late Mr Muzvidziwa returned home on Saturday, the source said, but was surprised to find that his wife was not at home.
The source said the now deceased Mr Muzvidziwa was then tipped off by friends that his wife had been spotted at Chikomba lodge.
"Mr Muzvidziwa was tipped off by friends that his wife had been seen with a man at Chikomba lodge. He proceeded to Chitekete Business Centre where he approached the staff at the lodge. The staff lodge showed him the room where his wife and her alleged lover were booked," said the source.
The source said the now deceased Mr Muzvidziwa got the shock of his life when he caught the two pants down.
A heated argument between the now deceased Mr Muzvidziwa and his wife's lover ensued which later degenerated into a fist fight, the source said.
"The lover was overpowered and was dragged outside while the now deceased Mr Muzvidziwa continued to assault him with open hands," said the source.
The source said Mr Muzvidziwa then left the scene in the company of his wife.
"Mr Muzvidziwa and his wife had a heated argument soon after the incident. Apparently the now deceased man was not amused by his wife's infidelity and he remonstrated her over the matter," said the source. The source said Mr Muzvidziwa allegedly committed suicide on arrival home leaving behind a suicide note.
"Mr Muzvidziwa's body was discovered by his uncle, a Mr Justice Lunga, hanging from a tree in a nearby bush," said the source.
Contacted for comment the lover who is a civil servant, confirmed the incident but refused to comment further.
"I am at Public Service Midlands Provincial offices in Gweru as I speak. I am writing a report pertaining to that issue. I am waiting to be cleared by my superiors before I can tell you my side of the story," he said.
