IN a bizarre incident a policeman has landed himself in trouble for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in a taxi with the help of the driver.

Constable Clive Munava of the Victoria Falls Cycle Patrol Unit and Smart Ncube, the taxi driver of House Number 5120, Mkhosana Township were not asked to plead when they briefly appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Mr Archibald Dingani.

They are facing allegations of contravening Section 196 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23 (rape).

Munava and Ncube were remanded in custody to 16 July and advised to apply to the High Court for bail.

According to the request for remand form, on 7 July, the 14-year-old complainant was walking along an unnamed road in Victoria Falls when she met the pair who were driving in Ncube's vehicle.

On seeing the complainant, Ncube stopped the car and asked the complainant to accompany them to Army Charlets Leisure Centre, the court heard.

At the Army Charlets, Ncube parked his car and came out to join Munava and the complainant on the rear seat.

Ncube allegedly held the complainant's hands while Munava undressed her.

Munava then allegedly raped the girl once while Ncube was holding her hands.

The court intends to call two State witnesses and will also produce a medical report as evidence.

Miss Namatirai Ngwashi appeared for the State.
