Man (41) killed in "who is buying beer" brawl

A 41-year-old man died from injuries sustained during a fight over who was supposed to buy beer.
The man died two days after sustaining the injuries.
The incident, which started as a mere scuffle, happened on 25 July at Bushstick Stampmill in Mphoengs, Mangwe District.
Police identified the dead man as Kwanele Ncube from village head Macala Moyo under Chief Bango in Kezi.
Acting police spokesperson for Matabeleland South, Sergeant Loveness Mangena, said the accused, Enock Chiveyani (29), from Chief Njelele area in Gokwe, was drinking beer with Ncube and three others identified as Cornelius Ncube, Mandevu and Luckson.
She said a quarrel then broke out over whose turn it was to buy beer.
"A misunderstanding ensued between Kwanele Ncube and the accused over who was supposed to buy beer. Ncube's behaviour did not please the accused who then rose from where he was sitting and kicked him once on the chest and once on the stomach. Ncube was taken to Brunapeg Hospital on 26 July at midnight where he was admitted.
"The doctor confirmed that Ncube sustained internal injuries due to the kicks and on 27 July at around 7.30am he died," said Sgt Mangena.
The matter was reported to police, leading to Chiveyani's arrest.
Ncube's body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for a post-mortem.
"As police officers, we don't tolerate such behaviour. People must ensure they resolve their petty issues in an amicable manner or should involve third persons instead of applying instant justice as this would see them languishing in jail for minor issues, which would have been easily avoided," said Sgt Mangena.
