Three people died on Tuesday night when the commuter omnibus they were travelling in was sideswiped by a haulage truck at the 52km peg along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Billy Dube yesterday confirmed the accident, which occurred at around 8pm.
"The haulage truck was travelling to Bulawayo while the kombi was headed towards Victoria Falls. At the 52km peg, the two vehicles sideswiped, resulting in the kombi overturning. Three people died," he said.
The police were not immediately clear on how many people were injured and identities of the deceased had not yet been established by yesterday.
Police said 18 people were killed and 110 others injured in 196 accidents recorded countrywide during the Heroes' Day and Defence Forces Day holidays. The accidents were attributed to speeding, driving without due care and overtaking errors.
