A Matobo woman (31) was last week murdered in cold blood by her male neighbour on accusations that she was defending her husband who the neighbor suspected of having an adulterous affair with his wife.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Sergeant Loveness Mangena said the incident occurred at Mahusangwe village last Thursday in full view of the woman's children.

Mangena said Sibanda was having supper with her three children when Maphosa came and asked about the whereabouts of her husband, Jethro Ndlovu, whom he alleged was having an affair with his wife.

When Sibanda professed ignorance over her husband's whereabouts, Maphosa allegedly accused her of defending him.

The two went outside the hut where Maphosa allegedly picked up a hoe, forcing her to rush back into the hut where her children were.

She tried to block Maphosa from gaining entry by closing the door, but was overpowered.

After Maphosa forced his way into the hut, he allegedly struck Sibanda five times at the back of the head with the hoe and fled the scene, leaving her for dead.

The woman's children informed a neighbour Viola Ndlovu about what had happened, who in turn alerted other villagers.

The woman died before she was taken for treatment.

She identified the deceased as Ncedisani Sibanda and the accused as Philani Maphosa (37).

Maphosa has since been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon to face a murder charge.
