Usiphatheleni robbed at gunpoint

A BEITBRIDGE illegal money changer popularly known as usiphatheleni was robbed of R32 000 at gunpoint by two men inside a bus at Dulibadzimu Bus Terminus.

Matabeleland South acting police spokesperson Sergeant Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident, which occurred on Tuesday at about 2am and said one of the suspects has since been arrested.

"I can confirm that Peresu Ndakudzwa aged 32 of House Number 2469 Dulibadzimu went into a parked bus belonging to Slace Bus Company to deal in forex," said Sgt Mangena.

She said while inside the bus, two men armed with a gun pounced on him.

"The other accused who was later identified as Tichaona Mandiziva stood guard at the door while his accomplice searched the complainant and took away  R32 000 and two cellphones," said Sgt Mangena.

She said the two robbers also searched another passenger in the bus but took nothing from him.

"Before leaving, the robbers fired one shot into the air and vanished into the night," said Sgt Mangena.
A report was made at Beitbridge  Urban Police Station and the police attended the scene.

She said after brief investigations by the police, Mandiziva of House Number 3268 Dulibadzimu was arrested not far from the scene of the crime.

The stolen cash and the gun was not recovered and Sgt Mangena appealed to members of the public to desist from carrying large sums of cash and dealing illegally in foreign currency.

"Anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the other suspect should contact the nearest police station or call Beitbridge Urban police on 0286-22554 or 22585," said Sgt Mangena.
