Boy (11) buried alive as pit collapses

A 11-YEAR-OLD boy from Lupane died after a pit he and his two friends had dug in a river bank collapsed and buried him alive.
Police confirmed the tragic incident which occurred last Friday at Dakiwe Village under Chief Mabhikwa in Lupane District.
The boy and his friends aged eight and 10 years were reportedly playing when they decided to dig a pit on the banks of Shangani River.
When the pit was one metre deep and one metre wide, the 11-year-old boy and the other aged 10 years started playing inside, but the loose sand around then pit collapsed on them and the other boy managed to escape, said the police.
Police ruled out foul play.
"We handled a case where a boy aged 11 died after being trapped by sand in the banks of Shangani River on Friday," said the police.
