Man kills stepson in jealous fit

A TSHOLOTSHO man allegedly severely assaulted his wife, kicked and stamped on his 19-month-old stepson who later died in hospital.
The man, Dedani Dube (26), of Dlamini area under Chief Tategulu, is alleged to have accused his wife Ms Kezinethi Ndlovu (24) of giving more attention to the child than to him.
Police spokesperson for Matabeleland North, Inspector Billie Dube, on Wednesday confirmed the incident which occurred on 2 November.
He said the boy died on Sunday at Mpilo Central Hospital from injuries sustained following the assault.
"We are handling a case where a 26-year-old man severely assaulted his wife and stepson. Dube was accusing his wife of giving more attention to the child and keeping the child in their matrimonial home yet that child was not his," said Insp Dube.
He said Dube had since been arrested and was helping police with investigations.
Insp Dube said the postmortem indicated that the infant died due to injuries sustained during the assault.
