A BID by Gokwe-Kabuyuni MP Costin Muguti (MDC-T) and fellow party member Shadreck Kana to have their 2008 violence case dismissed suffered a drawback last Thursday after Gokwe magistrate Shepherd Mjanja deferred ruling to December 3.
Muguti (38) and Kana (33) are being charged for allegedly disrupting a Zanu-PF meeting at Vumba business centre on March 25 2008.
The two have since denied the charge and indicated they wanted the case dropped for lack of evidence.
Both Muguti and Kana are out of custody on free bail.
The two through their lawyer Reginald Chidawanyika recently told the court they wanted to apply for discharge saying the State had failed to prove its case against them.
It is the State case that on March 25 2008, Zanu-PF members, who included Tobias Siyakhula, Give Siyambelebele and Davison Ncube, were attending a campaign meeting for the March 29 2008 elections addressed by Siamuchembo councillor Finos Sibanda at Vumba business centre in Gokwe.
The State alleges Muguti, Kana and Nickson Pensele, who is still at large, connived and allegedly stormed a Zanu-PF meeting where they pelted their rivals with stones, forcing them to disperse.
The matter was reported to police, leading to the arrest of the two.
