A Plumtree man has been arrested for attempting to murder his mother and sister by stabbing them several times using a broken bottle.
Moses Moyo (43), of Mawope Ndebele's homestead under Headman Mzwanyana in Nyele area of Bulilima District, was convicted on his own plea of guilt to attempted murder when he appeared before Plumtree magistrate Mr Phanankosi Mzingaye Moyo.
He was remanded in custody for sentence.
Moyo stabbed his mother Mawope Ndebele (66) five times on the body at their homestead. He went on to stab his young sister Abigail (26) four times.
The State's case presented by prosecutor, Miss Jane Phiri, is that on 26 December at about 8pm, Moyo got home from Marula business centre drunk.
Moyo approached his mother and accused her of destroying his spirit medium clothes and spear. He started assaulting her by stabbing her once on the right side of the neck, on the right arm, wrist, left arm and left arm.
His mother fell down and he further struck her once on the forehead using a brick.
Moyo then approached his young sister who tried to intervene and accused her of being stubborn and also bewitching him. Moyo used the same broken bottle and stabbed his sister on the left arm, forehead, left shoulder and left arm and he left her lying down.
The incident was reported to the police leading to Moyo's arrest.
Moyo's mother and sister sustained serious injuries following the assault. They were rushed to Plumtree District Hospital.
