Man, half sister arrested for incest

A 32-year-old Beitbridge man has been arrested along with his half sister aged 17 for engaging in an incestuous relationship which resulted in them siring a child together following the death of their parents.
Their child is two years old and the girl is heavily pregnant and the brother is said to be responsible.
The two, from Mbedzi village under Chief Staudze, were convicted on their own plea by Beitbridge resident magistrate Miss Gloria Takundwa on Friday.
They were both charged for contravening section 75(2) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23, "Sex within a prohibited degree of relationship."
The duo was remanded in custody to today for sentence.
Prosecutor Mr Jabulani Mberesi said the two accused were born of the same mother but different fathers.
He said the accused's parents passed on in 2011.
Mr Mberesi said from 2010 the two started living as husband and wife. The incestuous relations resulted in the birth of a baby boy who is now two years old.
He said at the moment the girl is pregnant with the second child from the same relationship.
Mr Mberesi said the matter came to light last October when the village head, Mr Posani Mbedzi, got a tip off from other villagers.
The court heard that the two accused persons disappeared from the village soon after getting wind that Mr Mbedzi was aware of their incestuous relations.
They then went and sought refuge in a bush area near Shashe village but were later arrested at Shashe Business centre.
Meanwhile, in a related incident a Gwanda man is alleged to have impregnated his stepdaughter for the second time.
Sources who declined to be named said the man from Spitzkop North Extension in Gwanda town who is said to be a member of an Apostolic Sect and is employed at one of the filling stations in Gwanda town, has not been reported to the police.
The love relationship between the two is said to have started when stepdaughter was still at a secondary school in the mining town.
The man's wife who is the stepdaughter's mother died a few years ago.
Contacted for a comment, the man denied the allegations but could not say who had impregnated his stepdaughter whom he said had give birth to her second child last week.
