More than 35 huts have been destroyed by floods in Tsholotsho following the rains that continue to be experienced in most parts of the country.
Matabeleland North Acting Provincial Administrator, Nosizi Dube said although the total number of affected families has not been established, there is concern on the rising water levels in the low areas of the province will worsen the situation.
She said other parts of the province that have been affected include Binga where 16 people were airlifted as well as Dete and Hwange where one person died while trying to cross Deka River.
Ms Dube said the Provincial Civil Protection Unit Committees is on high alert and ready to provide any form of assistance.
"We are aware of the situation as a province and our main concern is Tsholotsho where there is water as soon as one passes Nyamandlovu all the way to the district centre.
"In fact even people attending the service for the late VP Nkomo where stuck for several hours on their way back," she said.
She said the Red Cross and the Civil Protection Unit has so far assisted affected families and given them $100 each for their upkeep while more assistance is being sought.
Tsholotsho, Hwange and Binga are some of the districts in which floods are prone to flooding during the rainy season and this has led to loss of human lives as well as property worth thousands of dollars.
