Bulawayo - Fresh charges have been opened against Morgan Ncube, the MDC-T Matabeleland South Youth Assembly chairperson on allegations that he likened Zanu-PF leader, Robert Mugabe to a baboon.
Ncube was arrested in June last year in Beitbridge on charges that he had told MDC-T supporters on 2 June at Stanmore in Gwanda that Mugabe was like a baboon.
He was taken to Plumtree magistrates' courts where he was remanded in custody for more than two weeks. The magistrate, Stephen Mavhuna refused Ncube bail on the grounds that he was a threat to national peace and was likely to cause riots with such Mugabe jibes.
Ncube was later given bail and was acquitted at the same courts last October.
However, Ncube was surprised when on Saturday, 5 January he received summons from the police informing him to appear at the Plumtree courts to answer to the same charges again.
Ncube believes that the charges are nothing but an attempt by Zanu-PF using the State machinery to frustrate his political ambitions.
Ncube is councillor for Beitbridge.
"I will not be intimidated by this continued harassment as I have done nothing wrong and will continue with my struggle of delivering real change to the people of Zimbabwe. The bringing up of these new charges is a sign of the development that I have brought to Beitbridge and more that is yet to come," said Ncube.
