A Beitbridge woman recently lost $10 000 cash, a laptop and a cell phone at to four masked armed robbers who stormed her house at night, police have said.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya said the incident occurred on Tuesday last week at around 7pm at the victim's house in Dulibadzimu suburb.

Police have since arrested a 30 year-old local man allegedly linked to the armed robbery while the four suspects are still on the run. According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect, had earlier called the victim to enquire about the money he had lent her.

"The woman asked the suspect to come to her house later in the day to collect the money as she was in Musina at the time. On her return, the complainant phoned the man so that he could come and collect the money that she owed him," Asst Insp Ngwenya said.

The suspect later went to the woman's house in the evening to collect the money.

"Soon after the suspect was given his money by the victim, four men wearing black woollen masks and brandishing a pistol and knives stormed the house and demanded money from the woman amid threats to kill her if she resisted," he said.

The man gave his alleged accomplices R5 000, which he had collected from the woman before they robbed the victim of $10 000, a Samsung laptop worth R4 500 and a Nokia cell phone. Soon after committing the offence the four men disappeared into darkness. The woman reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the man suspected to have links with the gang.

"We have arrested a man whom we suspect had a hand in the armed robbery. In fact, we strongly believe, the suspect could have tipped off his accomplices, but we are however, still investigating," Asst Insp Ngwenya said.

He said they have since launched a manhunt for the other four suspects.

"As police we are also appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the other four suspects to contact us on 0284-22810 or alternatively visit any nearest police station," said the police spokesperson.
