GWERU - An MDC-T councillor was assaulted by a party youth activist last Sunday in a suspected case of factionalism in the race for the Gweru Urban parliamentary seat.
Ward 4 councillor Kenneth Sithole had a swollen face after John Kadamanja beat him up with clenched fists.
Kadamanja stormed into a house in Ascot suburb where the councillor had a meeting with aspiring candidates for Ward 8.
The youth has since appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the charge. He was asked by Gweru magistrate Sithembiso Ncube to pay a fine of $100, failure of which he would be jailed for two months.
The youth is employed at Rutsvara Shoe Company owned by Gweru Urban MP Rodrick Rutsvara.
Rutsvara is eyeing the Gweru Urban seat and is set to fight for the control of constituency with former Gweru executive mayor and Local Government deputy minister Sesel Zvidzai.
Sithole has since written a report to the party's district executive and copied it to the provincial and national structures complaining about the assault.
