Man commits suicide at girlfriend's place over $50 she owed him

A 34-year-old Gweru man allegedly committed suicide at his girlfriend's place following an argument over $50 which the girlfriend owed him.
Police confirmed the incident which happened on Saturday at around 7am in Mkoba Village 17. They identified the man as Believe Ngwenya of Mkoba Village 19.
Acting police spokesperson for Midlands province, Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said police suspected that Ngwenya could have poisoned himself.
"We are investigating a case of suspected poisoning which happened on Saturday. Onthat day, the now deceased Ngwenya of Mkoba Village 19 went to his girlfriend's place in Mkoba Village 17 intending to collect his US$50, which she owed him. It is alleged that the girlfriend refused with the money. Ngwenya became angry and went out of the girlfriend's house. While outside, Ngwenya drank an unknown concoction which was in a Fanta bottle," said Asst Insp Mahoko.
He said Ngwenya was seen by his girlfriend's mother lying on the veranda struggling to breathe. Asst Insp Mahoko said the girlfriend's mother informed the police about the incident.
"An ambulance was called but when it arrived, Ngwenya was already dead. Police also attended the scene and the body of the deceased was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary," he said.
