A Gwanda security guard struck his workmate unconscious with a pot full of isitshwala during an altercation over a missing $6 that was meant for relish.

Nicholas Mlilo (34), employed as a security guard by Laymack Security was this week arraigned before Matabeleland South provincial magistrate-in-charge Mr Douglas Vakayi Chikwekwe to answer to a charge of assault.

He pleaded guilty.

Mlilo was fined $100 or 60 days in prison.

On Saturday last week at about 11.30pm at Three Stamp Mill in Colleen Bawn, the complainant, Mr Maxwell Bvurungayi employed as a pumpman at Three Stamp Mill, knocked off duty and went to join his collegues who were seated around a fire.

His collegues were discussing the issue of the missing $6 which was meant to buy relish for the supper.

Mr Bvurungayi then accused Mlilo as the one who had stolen the money, pointing that again sometime back his soft drink went missing when Mlilo was among the people who were present.

Although Mlilo denied being connected to the theft of the $6, Mr Bvurungayi still maintained that Mlilo knew about the missing money.

That angered Mlilo who then snatched a pot full of isitshwala from the fire and struck Mr Bvurungayi on his left ear.

As a result of the blow, Mr Bvurungayi became unconsciousness and only woke up at Gwanda Provincial Hospital where he had been taken to.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Mlilo.

Mr Edward Ndlovu prosecuted.
