Grandpa hangs self after rape

An 80 year old man from Bulilima district committed suicide by hanging himself after raping a 29-year-old mental patient who is also paralysed.
Thee police spokesperson for Matabeleland South, Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya, confirmed the incident, which he said occurred on Friday at about 6pm.
He identified the man as Elias Ncube of Village 10, Madlambuzi area.
Asst Insp Ngwenya said the 29-year- old woman who is paralysed on the left arm and left leg and has a mental problem had been sent by her father to buy beer from Ncube's homestead at about 6pm.
"While she was there, he grabbed her and pulled her to the back of his hut where he forced her to lie down and raped heir once. After the act, Ncube promised to give the woman money if she did not tell anyone what had happened. On arriving home she reported the incident to her father," said Asst Insp Ngwenya.
He said the woman's father then alerted his neighbours and they teamed up and confronted Ncube at his homestead. They ordered Ncube to accompany them to the police station but he refused. He said Ncube tried to flee but was caught and on the pretext of getting his ID Ncube hanged himself using a rope from the roof.
