Man stumbles on grenade while searching for gold

A Gwanda small-scale miner stumbled on a hand grenade while searching for gold using a metal detector at a resettlement area near Colleen Bawn.
The incident ^occurred on Thursday last week at about 12 midday.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya identified the miner as Mr Nkosilathi Masina (34) of Stand Number 89 Capital Block in Colleen Bawn.
It is believed the hand grenade could have been left during the liberation struggle.
"The miner was searching for gold using a metal detector and in the process found the grenade," said Asst Insp Ngwenya.
He said Mr Masina quickly left the scene and reported the matter to the police.
"It was discovered that the grenade was rusty, indicating that it could have been in that place for a very long time. The Bomb Disposal Unit was then , advised and the scene was placed under police guard," said Asst Insp Ngwenya.
The hand grenade was removed by the Bomb Disposal Unit at the weekend.
