THE Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) has reduced its charges of treated water to Gwanda Municipality from $1,06 to $0,70 per cubic metre.
The development is expected to bring relief to Gwanda residents.
The Minister of Water Resources Development and Management, Dr Samuel Sipepa Nkomo has written a letter to Gwanda acting Mayor, Councillor Thokozile Sibanda confirming the development.
The municipality recently appealed to Minister Nkomo to intervene over the high water tariffs Zinwa was charging the local authority.

The Gwanda Town Council has been charging $1,30 for less than 10 cubic metres, $1,40 for between 11 and 20 cubic metres and $1,50 for 21cubic metres and above.
"Zinwa has proposed that Gwanda Town Council also reduce its water charges to its residents to $0,80," said the source.
Contacted for comment on the development, Clr Sibanda confirmed that she was in possession of a letter on new water charges.
However, she could not give further details saying she had not briefed other councillors.
"There is a letter addressed to me pertaining that issue but for how I cannot give you further details because I have not consulted other councillors," said Clr Sibanda.
