A 60-year-old Beitbridge man has been arrested for allegedly raping his brother's 40-year-old wife after breaking into her hut while she was sleeping.
The suspect, from Chief Sitauze's area, was arrested on Saturday morning.
The officer commanding police in Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Lawrence Chinhengo, said the incident occurred on Saturday at about 8pm at Tuli Village.
The suspect is the elder brother to the victim's husband who is employed in South Africa.
"Our investigations indicate that on the fateful day, the man who took advantage of his brother's absence broke into his bedroom hut during the night. He attacked the complainant before raping her once and then fled to his homestead, which is situated close to the victim's," said Chief Supt Chinhengo.
Soon after the offence, the woman went to the local headman's home and reported the matter.
The issue was later reported to the police leading to the man's arrest.
Chief Supt Chinhengo said the suspect would appear in court soon on charges of unlawful entry and rape.
