A woman from Dombodema in Bulilima District recently collapsed and died while boarding a kombi in Plumtree town.
A witness who identified the woman as Gladys Moyo of Tjompani Village said she arrived at the terminus carrying groceries and as she was boarding the kombi, she fell to the ground and died.
Mrs Ivy Tshuma, who is also from the same area, said Moyo had been ill for some time.
"We were in a kombi that was on its way to Dombodema area and Gladys, who is also from our area, arrived carrying some groceries. She placed her luggage on the seat and as she was boarding the kombi she fell to the ground," said Mrs Tshuma.
"We assumed she had probably lost balance and we rushed to help her to her feet but she was already dead. We tried resuscitating her but it did not help. Gladys was constantly complaining that she was not feeling well but I do not know what her problem was. She appeared to be strong though and we were not suspecting that such an incident may occur."
A nephew of Moyo who declined to be named said the deceased was on her way home after a visit to Bulawayo.
"My aunt was on her way home after visiting a neighbour in Bulawayo when she died at the bus rank while boarding a kombi to Dombodema. She had been ill for some time and recently she was admitted to hospital but I do not know what her problem was," he said.
