Man jailed for molesting child (3)

A 59-YEAR-OLD man from Mucheke suburb in Masvingo has been jailed for one-and-a-half years for caressing a three-year- old girl's private parts.
Samuel Maoneni pleaded hot guilty to Sexual assault when he appeared before provincial magistrate Mrs Dorothy Mwanyisa but was convicted due to overwhelming evidence.
He was sentenced to two years in jail but will serve an effective one-and-a-half years after six months was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. The prosecutor, Ms Mukai Mutumhe, said on 18 April at around 11 am, the complainant and her four-year-old sister were alone at their family home next to Maoneni's house.
The court heard that the complainant went to Maoneni's house asking for some money to buy a freezit. Maoneni took the complainant into his room where he placed her on his bed before caressing her private parts after which he gave her one rand and told her to leave.
The girl went home and when her mother asked her who had given her die money, she narrated what had happened leading to her.
The mother then made a report at Chikato police, leading to Maoneni's arrest.
