Man involved in a fatal bicycle accident with another bicycle

A 66-year-old man died from injuries sustained when he was involved in a collision with another cyclist along Songwe Road in Hwange. The man, identified as John Mhlanga, reportedly sustained head injuries and died three days after the bicycle accident.
Confirming the incident, Matabeleland North acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Eghlon Nkala said the accident happened last week along Songwe Road.
"On 26 April, Confidence Sakala (21) was cycling down in the southerly direction along Songwe Road while John Mhlanga (66) was cycling from the opposite direction when upon approaching a bridge near Spar Supermarket the two collided," said Asst Insp Nkala.
He said both men sustained injuries and were rushed to Hwange Colliery Hospital for treatment.
"Sakala who sustained minor cuts on the forehead was treated and discharged while Mhlanga sustained head injuries and was admitted at Hwange Colliery Hospital. On 29 April Mhlanga's condition deteriorated and was transferred to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where he died on 29 April," said Asst Insp Nkala.
He said the scene was attended by Hwange traffic police and urged cyclists to reduce speed when cycling as well as ensure that brakes are working well.
