Chief Gumede laid to rest in Lupane

Chief Jonson Menyezwa Gumede who died last week on Thursday at the age of 84 after a long battle with prostate cancer has been laid to rest at his Dongamuzi homestead in Lupane.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the young brother to Chief Gumede, Constantine Moses Gumede who has been the Acting Chief for the past three years during the period his brother was terminally ill said the family was devastated by the death of the Chief adding that the gap he left will be difficult felt.

Among the mourners was the Governor and Resident Minister for Matabeleland North, Thokozile Mathuthu, she said Chief Gumede will be greatly missed by the province as he was full of developmental plans.

He always desired peace and unity among people.

Chief Jonson Manyezwa Gumede was born on the 12th of December 1929 at Embonqane in Solusi-Gwayi area.

He did his primary education at Empandeni mission up to standard six.

He was then employed at Lobels in Bulawayo for a short period before joining Glamex clothing and worked for 39 years before retiring in 1990 to attain the chieftainship.

He is survived by his wife Judith Moyo, seven children and five grandchildren.
