Convict steals from magistrate

A man who was serving 315 hours of community service broke into various offices at the Gokwe Magistrates' Courts stealing several items and cash.
Cornelius Siziba (22) of Mafungautsi in Gokwe was on Friday convicted and sentenced to 51 months in jail for three counts of unlawful entry and three counts of theft, the Southern Eye reported.
The court heard that on May 27 at 1pm, Velania Mudzamba an office orderly at the Gokwe Magistrates court left her purse in the office while going for launch. Siziba entered the office and stole a Nokia cellphone valued at $52.
On May 20 Francis Nsiyaludzi a community service officer at the courts left his office to go for launch and Siziba entered and stole an internet modem worth $50.
On June 3 Lyody Mtepeta an employee at Gokwe courts left his office going for launch and Siziba entered and stole a diary, $41 and 50 rand cash.
A report made to the police led to Siziba's arrest. The cellphone, Modem and $60 cash were recovered from him.
Siziba, however, pleaded not guilty to unlawful entry and theft charges when he appeared before Gokwe magistrate Sheppard Mjanja.
The magistrate convicted him on all charges and sentenced him to 41 months in jail.
In the previous sentence the magistrate had suspended nine months for five years on condition of good behaviour.
On Friday the magistrate brought forward the nine months previously suspended sentence, which left Siziba with a 51 months jail term.
