A 40-year-old man from the Siasamba village in Gokwe North was on Friday slapped with a six-year jail term for stealing 10 donkeys from another villager.
John Siamachela pleaded guilty to stocktheft when he appeared before Gokwe resident magistrate Sheppard Mjanja.
The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to six years in jail.
One year of the sentence was suspended for three years on condition of good behaviour.
Prosecutor Mandla Ndlovu told the court that on June 18 this year, Siamachela went to Siasamba grazing lands in the company of one Isaac Masunda - still at large.
On their return to their homes they saw 10 donkeys belonging to a villager.
They drove the donkeys for about 28km to their homes.
They later met a local neighbourhood watch committee member who questioned them over where they were taking the donkeys.
Masunda ran away and the neighbourhood watch committee member arrested Siamachela and the 10 donkeys, valued at $1 000, were recovered.
