A 22-year-old man from Msewele village was allegedly caught red-handed by the husband of a woman whom he allegedly attempted to rape.
Nqobani Mpofu was not asked to plead to attempted rape when he appeared before Lupane magistrate Aelene Munamati on Wednesday.
Prosecutor Lungisani Dube told the court that on July 2, Mpofu went to the 46-year-old complainant's home where he found children playing outside while the woman was inside the bedroom.
It is alleged that Mpofu entered the bedroom and found the woman undressed while applying cosmetics on her body and withing a split of a second, pounced on her.
But while they were wrestling with each other, the woman's husband arrived at the homestead. Upon hearing his wife's screams, the husbund rushed to the bedroom and caught Mpofu allegedly trying to rape her.
The husband then arrested Mpofu and handed him over to the police.
However, Mpofu told the court he had an ilicit love affair with the woman.
He said they had hatched a plan to meet on the day, but unfortunately her husband arrived a few minutes after he entered the bedroom.
Mpofu said when the woman's husband arrived he had asked the children why they were playing outside the gate.
He said the woman heard that her husband was home and started screaming.
The magistrate remanded Mpofu out of custody on free bail to August 20, but he has to report twice a month at Jotsholo Police Station, reside at the given address until the case is finalised and not to interfere with State witnesses.
